WHAT
IS CHIROPRACTIC?
| Chiropractic
is a total and preventive approach to health, focusing on wellness
rather than disease. Chiropractors use a natural, drugless, non-surgical
approach to health care. They consider all aspects of the patient's
life: family history, work, lifestyle, environment, diet, exercise
and the patient's physical and emotional stress factors. They place
special emphasis on the care of the spine.
The primary means of chiropractic care is
the spinal adjustment, a short and painless thrust against the spine
using only the doctor's hands. Spinal adjustments correct vertebral
subluxations, which are changes in the position of the spine that
do not allow the spine to function properly. When the spine is subluxated,
the nerves in that area may behave abnormally and cause pain or
other problems. The intent of a spinal adjustment is to restore
normal motion, function and nerve impulse flow.
Doctors
of chiropractic provide highly specialized care for musculoskeletal
conditions and they identify and correct vertebral subluxations.
They also serve as teachers as they educate patients about the power
of the body to regulate and heal itself. And, they act as coaches
who encourage sound health and wellness habits.

CHIROPRACTIC
PRINCIPLES
1.
The body is a self-healing and self-regulating organism.
2.
The nerve system is the master controlling and coordinating system
of the body.
3.
Anything that interferes with normal nerve function, like a subluxation,
is bad.
4.
Anything that reduces disturbance in the nerve system, like an adjustment,
is good. |
